Parable of the Top Ten Percent
Today's parable is not a new one. In fact, it comes from one Jesus Christ himself told.
We live in an age of lists. The Ten funniest pictures, the
five most outrageous grammar mistakes. The top ten cities, the top ten fashions,
etc., etc., etc. Each list telling us what is the best, classiest and, in short,
the "top."
Christ, too, talks about behaviors that "top
Christians" exhibit through his parables. One such parable is about ten
lepers who begged for healing. When Christ made them clean, most of them went
their way rejoicing, and lived their lives. But one man, the top 10%, turned
back to Christ and expressed his gratitude. In Christ's own words, "But
were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?" (Luke 17:17)
Ten lepers were healed, but only the top ten percent had
faith enough to be made whole.
