New Play Contest

Now this one is really cool. A community theatre in Minnesota has a reoccurring contest for plays that have never been produced.

Rolling Submission Deadline: April 30th (submissions received after this date will be entered in the next contest)

What's eligible: Ten-minute plays, one-acts, full plays, and musicals. Yep that pretty much covers all the standard types of plays.

What's NOT Eligible: Plays that have been produced on stage, or published. But reading workshops are okay.

What to submit: Three copies of the play and the submission form found on their website.

1st Five Pages Workshop

Hosted on http://www.adventuresinyapublishing.com/

When: A monthly 1st Five Pages Workshops begin the first Saturday of every month.

What's Eligible: The first five middle grade or young adult manuscripts received by email starting at Noon EST. They have permanent mentors who work alongside a guest mentor to tell each participant what we see in those first five pages with respect to voice, plot, characters, setting, pacing and writing in general. Depending on the mentor's schedule, they may comment only on the initial entries, on the initial entry and one revision, or on all subsequent revisions.

Participants also get feedback and comments from peers, and have the opportunity to post two revisions so they can up with the strongest possible beginning.

This workshop is designed for participants who can commit to commenting and giving feedback to other participants. This is a give and take workshop, so don't submit if you are not willing to give feedback.

#BaitandPitch Workshop

No, this is not a place to learn how to fish.

Every Thursday, Danny Morin hosts a pitch workshop on her blog. It alternates from query style
(first paragraph), Contest Pitches (35 words), and Twitter Pitches (140 characters). Check it out at http://dcmorin.blogspot.com/
